I built my first in the spring with a friend who is a welder, got two more barrels ready to go for other friends too.

They are awesome, make amazing ribs!

Hey jake, did you start out with food grade barrells?

The only thing I could find were ones that had methol alcohol (rubbing alcohol) in them, they were very clean and fully evaporated.

We did do a real thorough burn on it though, massive fire that burned for a few hours, then a full scrub with hot soapy water with a stiff brush. You would have never suspected anything in them even when we picked them up.

As it is alcohol it does evaporate but would go recommending it better to find ones that had food grade oil or something in them.

Could use a welder as a friend. Food grade drums would be the safest fruit juice drums. Alcohol does evaporate a good fire should take care of rest. Got any pictures you can share?

Thanks for the pictures. Most put the thermo at grill level. Do you run at a higher temp to compensate?
