Huck’s Hut TV: Review of the BDS Mini and Midi

Today we’d like to present you with our review of the 2 of the smaller BDS models that Big Drum Smokers have to offer. The Midi 1834 holds 6-7lbs. of charcoal and the Mini, the smallest BDS, holds 4-5lbs. Both of these smokers had the same ease of use as the larger units. To increase the temp, remove the intake plugs, and to decrease the temp, you put them back in. For our test cook, both drums were pretty fuel efficient. On the Mini 1427, we were able to fit 2 cornished hens and 1 whole chicken. We also found a cool way to carry it using the handle on the lid. We placed the ring back around the top as shown in the video intro and tightened it a little with the bolt and was able to carry it around with ease. These are mainly for cooking for the family and/or a few friends. When we were done cooking, we plugged in all intake holes and was able to save a great deal of charcoal for our next cook. To see these 2 bad boys in action, check out the video below.

    Hey Huck!

I have been thinking about getting the midi for quite some time. I was not sure it would be large enough. I believe this video convinced me to go for it! I have a couple of questions though. Have you loaded up both racks with food? ? ? and if so, do you notice a difference in the cooking time on either rack…as in does the one cook faster than the other?

    Thanks and keep smokin’!!

KK, No have not used both racks yet. Plan cook soon will use both racks stay tune. When using both racks on my wsm I would move meat around to even cook times. Midi worked flawless all on 6 lbs. charcoal.
